Responsibilities:
The City Attorney prosecutes all cases of violation of city ordinances that come before the City Court. The City Attorney keeps a record or register of all suits and proceedings which, as City Attorney, she has charge over. She prepares all legal papers, contracts, deeds and other instruments for the city and the different departments thereof and attends the meetings of the Common Council. The City Attorney examines throughly all claims against the City for damages or injuries to persons or property, and provides for the defense of such claims.  The City Attorney also serves as legal counsel to the Mayor, and advises the Mayor and Common Council on legal matters that affect the city.
