Mayor Barlow announces $25,000 grant for Gibby’s Irish Pub Expansion Project

Mayor Billy Barlow has announced a $25,000 grant for Gibby's Irish Pub to assist with an expansion project.  The project consists of demolishing a neighboring property to expand the existing building and create a kitchen to expand their menu and offer food and dining near the Oswego waterfront.  The new addition will be approximately a two story 30X50 foot space, housing the kitchen for the new restaurant.  The new restaurant will result in the creation of a mixture of 15 full time and part time new jobs and is scheduled to begin in late Spring, early summer 2019.

"Gibby's Irish Pub is a popular establishment in the City of Oswego and Oswego residents and regular Gibby's patrons will be excited to learn the Pub is expanding and will be offering food and dining options," said Mayor Barlow.  "Gibby's is one of a few waterfront restaurants in the City and this project will build off our recent marina improvements, our waterfront revitalization projects and our downtown revitalization plan.  It is smart for the City to encourage and fund this expansion project as it will undoubtedly serve as another reason for folks to travel to our downtown, near our waterfront and take advantage of being a waterfront community.  We hope to see more private investment in our downtown and near our waterfront and I am proud to offer Dave Thompson and Gibby's Irish Pub financial assistance for this exciting project," Barlow said.

Dave Thompson, owner and operator of Gibby’s Irish Pub said, “I can’t thank Mayor Barlow and the City of Oswego enough for this great opportunity.  It’s been a long time dream to run a restaurant down by the water.  With the new housing development and other improvements happening in our downtown, I think this expansion will be a nice fit and an extension to our downtown.  I’d like to thank Mayor Barlow for his continued interest in making this City a great destination.”

The grant funding comes from the commitment of program income through the NYS Community Development Block Grant program, administered and managed by the city’s Office of Economic Development. Other projects assisted by the city recently include a major expansion project for Northland Filter, the expansion of The Good Guys Barbershop and the re-location of LeRoi, Inc., to the city of Oswego and the re-location of Pizza Villa to the current Stone's Candies building.
